Metropolitan Police Arrest Suspect in Georgia Avenue Bank Robbery, Second Suspect Still at Large

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has made significant progress in the investigation of a recent unarmed bank robbery on Georgia Avenue. Authorities have arrested one suspect, while a second individual involved in the heist remains on the run.

Arrest Made Following Thursday Robbery

The robbery occurred Thursday afternoon at approximately 2:55 p.m. at the Truist Bank located in the 6400 block of Georgia Avenue NW. According to police reports, two individuals entered the bank, where one of the suspects passed a note to a teller demanding money. Though no weapons were displayed or used during the incident, the suspects managed to flee the scene with a substantial amount of cash.

Bobby Ransome, 46, of Northwest D.C., has been charged in connection with the robbery. After swift investigative efforts by MPD officers and detectives, Ransome was located and apprehended. He now faces charges for his role in the crime.

Second Suspect Remains at Large

While one suspect is in custody, the second perpetrator remains unidentified and at large. Surveillance footage captured a clear image of the second individual during the robbery, and the MPD has released the photo to the public in hopes of generating leads.

Authorities have urged community members not to approach the suspect if seen, but instead to contact law enforcement immediately.

Community Help Sought

The MPD is calling on the public’s help to identify and locate the remaining suspect. Tipsters can provide information by calling (202) 727-9099 or submitting anonymous messages via the TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.

To incentivize cooperation, the department is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the second suspect.

“The involvement of the community is crucial in helping us bring those responsible to justice,” said an MPD spokesperson. “Thanks to fast police work, we’ve made one arrest — now we need your help to complete the case.”

A Reminder of Continued Vigilance

While no one was injured during the incident, the brazen nature of the daylight robbery in a well-trafficked area has stirred concern among residents and businesses. The use of a demand note instead of a weapon reflects a calculated tactic, but one that still causes disruption and fear.

The arrest of Ransome marks a critical step in resolving the case, but the MPD remains focused on ensuring that both individuals are held accountable.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation remains active, with detectives reviewing evidence and working leads to track down the second suspect. Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area during the time of the robbery, or who recognizes the suspect from the released image, is strongly encouraged to reach out.

In the meantime, MPD continues to reassure the public that maintaining safety and security in the city remains its top priority.
