Maryland Man Pleads Guilty to Murdering Girlfriend’s Husband in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 28-year-old Maryland man has pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of his girlfriend’s husband in a Southeast D.C. apartment. Keyon Slaughter entered the plea in court, admitting to the December 2022 murder of Dana Bailey, Jr., as part of a plea deal that includes a recommended 16-year prison sentence, pending court approval.

Slaughter will also serve five years of supervised release after completing his prison term. Formal sentencing is scheduled for August 29, 2025.

Fatal Confrontation in D.C. Apartment

According to court documents, on the morning of December 5, 2022, Slaughter went to Bailey’s residence located at 3224 E Street Southeast. Once inside the apartment, he confronted Bailey and shot him in the chest with a .40 caliber handgun, resulting in Bailey’s death.

After the shooting, Slaughter immediately fled the scene and left the District, traveling to North Carolina in an attempt to evade capture.

Complicated Relationship and Prior Conviction

Investigators discovered that Slaughter was romantically involved with Mr. Bailey’s wife at the time of the murder. She was later indicted for her role in the incident and has pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice.

Adding to the gravity of the crime, Slaughter was already on supervised probation for a 2019 armed robbery conviction in Charles County, Maryland, when the murder occurred.

He was eventually arrested in July 2023 and has remained in custody since.

Investigation and Prosecution

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles R. Jones.

The plea deal offers some closure to a tragic and complex case, while highlighting the dangers of escalating domestic disputes and the consequences of violent crime.
