Local couple arrested for allegedly scamming two residents out of thousands of dollars

A couple from Whatcom County is behind bars after allegedly conning two residents out of thousands of dollars. According to Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater, deputies launched an investigation into the case back in April.

Court documents reveal that 23-year-old Jonathen Faircloth posed as a representative from the fraud department of a local credit union during a call in March. He allegedly convinced the victim to send their login details via text, then used that information to transfer $3,700 from their account to his own.

Two days later, Faircloth used the same tactic to target another victim, texting them and transferring nearly \$10,000 into his fiancée’s bank account.

Bellingham Police arrested Faircloth on June 2 in connection with the fraud case, along with separate theft charges. His fiancée was taken into custody on Sunday after visiting him at the Whatcom County Jail.

Both victims have since been reimbursed by the credit union for the stolen funds.
