Warwick Valley Humane Society Seeks Public’s Help to Identify Those Responsible
CHESTER, NY – A heartbreaking case of suspected animal cruelty is under investigation in Orange County after a severely injured kitten was found abandoned in the middle of a residential road.
The Warwick Valley Humane Society is appealing to the public for information after the kitten—now named Ava—was discovered on Arcadia Road in Chester, NY. According to the shelter, the young feline was found with a bloodied face, emaciated body, and other serious medical concerns requiring urgent care.
Shocking Discovery in Chester
In a Facebook post that has since drawn attention and support from across the region, the Warwick Valley Humane Society shared the grim condition in which Ava was found. The kitten was reportedly sitting helplessly in the center of the road, visibly injured and in need of immediate medical attention.
“This little emaciated girl was found waiting in the middle of Arcadia Road in Chester, NY with a bloodied face,” the shelter wrote. “She needed far more than just comfort—she needed critical veterinary care.”
Suspected Case of Animal Cruelty
While the exact cause of Ava’s injuries remains unknown, the humane society suspects she may have been thrown from a moving vehicle, a cruel act that sadly has occurred in the region before.
“This kind of trauma is not consistent with natural causes,” the shelter added. “Given the injuries and where she was found, it’s possible she was deliberately tossed from a car.” The organization emphasized that Ava’s condition suggests intentional harm, and they are hoping to hold whoever is responsible accountable.
Ava’s Recovery and Ongoing Care
Since her rescue, Ava has received medical treatment for her injuries, including vaccinations, deworming, and ongoing care to help her regain strength. Staff at the shelter say she is showing resilience and slowly recovering, but they are determined to ensure justice is served.
“She’s safe now, but someone did this to her—and we want to find out who,” said a representative from the humane society.
Call for Public Assistance
The Warwick Valley Humane Society is urging anyone with information related to Ava’s case—particularly anyone who may have seen suspicious behavior on Arcadia Road or has dashcam footage—to come forward.
“We know someone out there saw something,” the shelter said. “If you know who might be responsible for harming Ava or saw a car slow down or stop along Arcadia Road, please reach out.”
