Hybrid Vehicle Fire Spreads to Silver Spring Home; Residents and Pet Escape Safely

SILVER SPRING, MD — A hybrid car fire that began in a residential garage spread to a Silver Spring home on Meadowneck Court Saturday night, prompting a swift response from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).

Fire Starts in Garage, Spreads to Second Floor

According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, firefighters were dispatched around 8:13 p.m. to reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, crews found a hybrid vehicle fully engulfed in flames inside the garage. The fire had already extended into the second floor of the home, creating a dangerous and rapidly escalating situation.

Occupants and Pet Escape Unharmed

Two adult occupants were inside the home at the time of the fire. Thanks to their quick response, both individuals and their pet managed to escape the home without serious injuries.

One of the adults reportedly attempted to put out the fire before emergency crews arrived and was evaluated at the scene by EMS personnel. Fortunately, the individual did not require transportation to the hospital.

Crews Contain Fire, Prevent Further Spread

MCFRS crews acted quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from causing further damage. Although the full extent of structural damage has not yet been confirmed, the fire was successfully extinguished, and no additional injuries were reported.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire is under investigation, including whether the hybrid vehicle’s battery system played a role in the rapid spread of the flames. Fires involving electric or hybrid vehicles often present unique hazards due to high-voltage battery systems, requiring specialized response tactics.

More Information to Follow

As of now, no additional details have been released about the extent of the damage or whether the residents will be displaced. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials have indicated they will provide further updates if new verified information becomes available.

Residents are reminded to avoid entering garages during a fire and to call 911 immediately. The quick escape of the home’s occupants likely prevented further tragedy.
