PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A dramatic multi-jurisdictional police pursuit ended Wednesday with the arrest of five suspects believed to be involved in an armed carjacking in Maryland. Authorities from both Prince George’s County and Washington, D.C., with support from the D.C. police helicopter “Falcon,” coordinated the pursuit and capture of the individuals after they were seen driving around in a stolen vehicle.
Armed Carjacking Sparks Chase
The incident began around 11 a.m., when officers from Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) identified a vehicle that had been recently reported stolen in an armed carjacking. The car was spotted in Southeast Washington and trailed into parts of Prince George’s County.
Police launched a brief but strategic pursuit, aided by aerial support from Falcon, the MPD helicopter that tracked the suspects’ movements from above.
Attempted Escape and First Arrests
The carjacked vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 1300 block of Brooke Road, located in the Coral Hills neighborhood of Prince George’s County. According to officials, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
Two individuals were quickly apprehended at the scene. Officers also recovered the carjacked vehicle and began securing the area while searching for the remaining suspects.
Fleeing Suspects Caught in D.C.
The remaining suspects reportedly used a second vehicle to escape the Brooke Road scene and crossed back into Washington, D.C. While evading authorities, they were soon spotted again by D.C. officers on patrol, who swiftly intervened and arrested three more individuals.
In total, five suspects were taken into custody between the two jurisdictions, thanks to the coordinated efforts of law enforcement and real-time communication across county and city lines.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have not yet released the names or ages of the suspects as the investigation remains ongoing. It’s unclear at this time whether all five individuals were directly involved in the armed carjacking or if any weapons were recovered during the arrests.
Officials say they are working to confirm each suspect’s role in the original carjacking and in the attempted getaway. Charges are expected to be filed by both Prince George’s County and D.C. authorities, depending on jurisdictional determinations.
A Joint Effort in Crime Response
This case is one of several recent carjacking incidents in Prince George’s County. The swift, coordinated response underscores how interagency cooperation is becoming increasingly essential in combatting violent and organized crimes that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
Residents in both Prince George’s County and D.C. have voiced growing concerns over the rise in carjackings in recent months. Police departments have responded with increased patrols, technology-assisted surveillance, and helicopter support, as seen in Wednesday’s operation.
Community Encouraged to Stay Alert
Law enforcement officials urge residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately. As investigations like this unfold, police rely heavily on public tips, surveillance footage, and real-time cooperation between city and county departments.
More details, including charges and court dates for the arrested suspects, are expected to be released in the coming days.
