Federal Task Force Operation Leads to Shooting in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A federal task force operation involving the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) resulted in a shooting early Thursday morning in Northeast Washington, though no injuries were reported.

Incident Details

According to an MTPD statement, the incident occurred shortly after midnight near 48th and Sheriff Road NE. Officers were assisting in a federal task force operation when they attempted to stop a suspect off Metro property.

During the stop, the suspect allegedly produced a firearm. In response, an MTPD officer discharged their weapon. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was not struck.

Arrests and Firearms Seized

Two individuals were taken into custody during the operation, and officers recovered two firearms at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has taken over the investigation into the shooting, as is standard procedure for officer-involved incidents in the District.

No Injuries Reported

Officials confirmed that no one — including the officer involved — was injured in the exchange.

Increased Federal Presence in D.C.

The operation comes amid heightened federal law enforcement activity in the District. President Donald Trump recently ordered an increased federal presence following several high-profile crimes and has reiterated threats to take federal control of the city’s police force.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the Thursday operation was directly related to the president’s recent directives.
