**Dearborn, MI** – An individual taken into custody following a fatal shooting last Friday night in Dearborn has been released without charges, after the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office determined the incident was an act of self-defense on behalf of another person.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday, July 14, that there was insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the individual involved in the shooting was not acting in defense of another. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Friday, July 11, following a domestic disturbance.
Dearborn Police and Fire Departments responded swiftly to reports of a domestic disturbance in the 1700 block of Walnut Street. Authorities stated that officers arriving on scene found one subject had been fatally shot by a family member during the incident. Police took an individual into custody at the scene.
After reviewing the preliminary investigation, prosecutors decided not to pursue charges, leading to the individual’s release on Monday. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed. Dearborn Police stated the investigation remains ongoing, but no charges are anticipated at this time unless new evidence emerges.
