DC Police Cruiser Interrupts Violent Early-Morning Carjacking on Swann Street

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A marked Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) patrol car stopped an attempted unarmed carjacking in progress early Sunday morning, leading to the arrest of two teenage suspects and a search for a third person.

Incident Overview

Around 3:00 a.m. on August 3, two suspects approached victims standing beside their vehicle in the 1400 block of Swann Street NW. Police say the suspects demanded the car and physically assaulted one of the victims during the confrontation.

The assault was cut short when an MPD cruiser turned onto the block. The suspects immediately fled, but officers quickly apprehended both — a 15-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, both from Hyattsville, Maryland. They have been charged with unarmed carjacking.

Victim Injured, Third Suspect Sought

One victim sustained injuries in the attack and was treated at the scene by DC Fire and EMS. MPD has released surveillance photos of a third person of interest who ran from the scene and remains at large.

Ongoing Investigation

The case is being handled by MPD’s Carjacking Taskforce in collaboration with the FBI Washington Field Office. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the unidentified suspect to call 202-727-9099 or text tips to 50411.

Police say the rapid intervention of the patrol unit likely prevented further harm to the victims and ensured the quick capture of two suspects.
