WASHINGTON, D.C. — A quiet Sunday morning turned deadly in Northeast Washington as two men were gunned down in the Kingman Park neighborhood, prompting a double homicide investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.
According to police, officers from the Fifth District were on patrol near the 1800 block of D Street, Northeast, when they heard a burst of gunfire around 12:03 a.m. Responding immediately, they canvassed the area and discovered two adult males lying on the street, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were found unconscious and unresponsive.
Emergency crews from DC Fire and EMS arrived quickly and initiated life-saving efforts. However, both men were pronounced dead at the scene after all attempts to revive them failed.
Authorities later identified the victims as 30-year-old Quonzay Lynch of Northeast Washington and 41-year-old Cortney Burley of Southeast Washington. Both men had ties to the community, and their deaths have left neighbors stunned and grieving.
No Arrests, Motive Still Unclear
Police have yet to determine a motive for the deadly shooting, and no arrests have been made. The area where the incident occurred is just blocks from family homes and parks — a location officers had been routinely patrolling only minutes earlier.
