Chick-fil-A Moves One Step Closer to Opening New Location in Kingston, NY

The long-anticipated arrival of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Hudson Valley is finally gaining traction, as the Town of Ulster takes a significant step forward in approving plans for the fast-food giant to open in Kingston, New York.

Former Red Lobster Site Slated for Redevelopment

The new Chick-fil-A is expected to take over the site of a former Red Lobster located at 1 Miron Lane, off Route 9W, in the Town of Ulster. The property has been dormant for some time, sparking speculation about potential redevelopments. Earlier this year, during the February 11 Planning Board meeting, Chick-fil-A officially submitted a redevelopment application to the town to construct a 5,198-square-foot restaurant featuring a drive-thru.

The application was met with overwhelming excitement from local residents who have long voiced their desire for more Chick-fil-A locations in the Hudson Valley. Social media lit up as the news spread, with many hoping this marks the end of years of speculation.

Environmental Review Gains Unanimous Approval

The most recent development came last week when the Ulster Town Board unanimously approved the next step in the review process, voting to move forward with the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). As part of that process, the board adopted the short-form Environmental Assessment Form (EAF) Part II and will now direct preparation of Part III, which examines any potential environmental impacts the new construction might have on the area.

Town Supervisor James E. Quigley commented on the board’s decision, stating:

“We are one step closer to getting a Chick-fil-A.”

This key approval suggests that the project is advancing on schedule and that the likelihood of Chick-fil-A opening in Kingston is now stronger than ever.

What’s Next for the Project?

Before construction can officially begin, the project will still need to clear final approvals, including the full environmental review and any additional local zoning or planning requirements. If the project passes all evaluations without delays, construction could begin later this year, and the new Chick-fil-A could open by late 2025 or early 2026.

Though there is still no confirmed construction timeline, the community remains optimistic.

A Welcome Addition for Fast-Food Fans

Chick-fil-A already has a loyal following in the Hudson Valley, with its existing locations often experiencing long drive-thru lines and packed dining areas. The Kingston location would mark the brand’s expansion further north into Ulster County, providing easier access for fans who previously had to travel to Dutchess or Orange Counties to get their fix.

The location’s proximity to Route 9W and central position in Kingston also makes it an ideal spot to draw customers from across the Hudson Valley region.

Final Thoughts

With the environmental review now underway and no major opposition currently reported, the signs are promising for Chick-fil-A’s newest Hudson Valley venture. For many residents, the phrase “one step closer” has never sounded so delicious.

Stay tuned as more updates are expected in the coming months as the project continues to progress.
