EAST FISHKILL, NY – July 11, 2025
A traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway led to the arrest of a Bronx man after New York State Police discovered a large quantity of fentanyl hidden inside his vehicle.
Carmelo Arroyo Miranda, 36, was pulled over at approximately 3:15 p.m. on July 9 while driving northbound in a Toyota Camry. State Police initiated the stop for multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations, according to a report released Thursday.
K-9 Unit Alerts to Narcotics
During the stop, members of the New York State Police Troop K Community Stabilization Unit called in narcotics detection K-9 Vinn to perform an exterior scan of the vehicle. K-9 Vinn alerted officers to the presence of illegal narcotics inside the car.
Based on the alert, troopers conducted a probable cause search, which led to the discovery of a rectangular, compressed package concealed inside the vehicle. The package contained approximately 1,095.8 grams of fentanyl — a highly potent and often deadly synthetic opioid.
Additional Narcotics Recovered
In addition to the large fentanyl seizure, troopers also recovered a pill bottle containing numerous glassine envelopes filled with a gray powdery substance, believed to be additional narcotics.
Given the quantity and nature of the drugs, authorities say this seizure represents a significant disruption to narcotics trafficking activity in the region.
Charges and Detention
Miranda was taken into custody at the scene and later arraigned in the Town of East Fishkill Court. He has since been remanded to Dutchess County Jail as the case proceeds through the legal system.
No bail information was immediately available, and authorities have not disclosed whether federal charges may follow, given the volume of drugs involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.
