SILVER SPRING, MD — A tense situation in downtown Silver Spring was swiftly defused Friday evening, July 25, when Montgomery County Police (MCPD) arrested an armed man observed pointing a handgun at individuals. A second suspect, who was the original subject of the police search, was also taken into custody during the incident.
Suspect Spotted on Surveillance Cameras
According to 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos, officers monitoring public safety cameras in the 8100 block of Georgia Avenue observed a man brandishing and pointing a handgun at people around 7:30 p.m. The alarming behavior prompted an immediate and coordinated response from MCPD patrol units.
Thanks to the live surveillance feed, officers quickly converged on the area and took the armed suspect into custody without incident. The man is facing multiple charges, including:

Second Suspect Also Apprehended
While arresting the armed individual, officers also located and apprehended a second man nearby. Authorities confirmed that this individual was the original wanted subject whom officers had been actively searching for in the area prior to the firearm-related incident.
