PRESS RELEASE

Beacon, New York – On February 8, 2015 at approximately 7:44 p.m., New York State Police from the East Fishkill barracks responded to the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge to conduct a welfare check. A Good Samaritan had contacted Dutchess County 911 after he located an unoccupied 2013 Volkswagon Jetta, stopped in the westbound lanes of the Bridge span with its hazard lights flashing.

Uniformed members arrived on scene and discovered that 31-year-old Anthony M. Sinishtaj, of Stormville, New York, had exited his vehicle and jumped from the bridge span.

Sinishtaj’s body was recovered on the frozen river by the New York State Police Dive Team. The State Police were assisted by the Town of Fishkill Police Department and the City of Beacon Fire Department.

At this time, State Police are continuing the investigation. More details may be provided as the information becomes available.
