Dutchess County honors residents at annual Celebration of Aging
The Dutchess County Office for the Aging honored more than two dozen centenarians – residents age 100 and older – at the department’s annual Celebration of Aging on Monday
.
County Executive Marc Molinaro joined Office for the Aging Director Mary Kaye Dolan and more than 200 guests to celebrate, among others, Dutchess County couples who have been married 70 years or longer, as well as the Senior Achievement Award winners, the male and female Senior Citizen of the Year honorees and the Senior Citizen Couple of the Year.
“Our Celebration of Aging is always a great time,” County Executive Molinaro said. “We are truly blessed to have these terrific individuals in our community.”
Among the centenarians honored, Rhinebeck’s Vera Van Wagner will celebrate her 111th birthday later this week. She already ranks as the oldest resident in New York State.
Rhinebeck resident Violet Dunckley was named the Female Senior Citizen of the Year, and Fishkill’s R. Murray Suggitt earned the Male Senior Citizen of the Year honor. Paul and Mary Lou Roggemann, of Hopewell Junction, were celebrated as the county’s Senior Citizen Couple of the Year.
Linda Thomas and Bob Mannino were each presented with a Senior Achievement Award for their years of volunteer service to the community. In all, 17 centenarians and eight couples were celebrated at Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls, in addition to the aforementioned honorees.
