POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — City police are investigating a shooting that erupted late Sunday night on Main Street, leading to the detention of four men believed to be involved. The incident, which took place near the Fireside Restaurant at 442 Main Street, caused alarm in the downtown area and left residents shaken.
Shots Fired Near Restaurant
Around 9:45 p.m., police received multiple reports of gunfire in the vicinity of the restaurant. During the exchange, a bullet struck the window of an apartment located above the business. The Poughkeepsie Fire Department was called in to check the apartment and ensure no residents were injured. Fortunately, no one inside was struck.
Suspects Flee, Quickly Apprehended
Witnesses told officers they saw four men fleeing on foot toward the westbound arterial immediately after the gunfire. Responding units canvassed the area, and within 13 minutes, police detained four suspects near the Family Partnership Center on North Hamilton Street.
The quick apprehension helped prevent further danger to the community, though police emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages.
Evidence Collected
At the scene, investigators recovered shell casings and began gathering surveillance footage from nearby businesses and buildings. According to police, video evidence shows four individuals exiting a building on Main Street and firing across the street at two people who were seen running away.
Authorities have not released details on the identities of those detained or whether they will face charges.
