WASHINGTON, D.C. – A violent altercation early Saturday morning left one man dead and three others injured after a stabbing near the busy U Street corridor, according to D.C. police.
Incident Unfolds Near Reeves Municipal Center
Just before 4 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of 14th and U streets Northwest, an area known for its nightlife and restaurants. When police arrived, they found three people suffering from stab wounds outside the Reeves Municipal Center.
Authorities say the violence began as an argument that escalated into a stabbing involving multiple individuals.
One Victim Killed
Among the victims was 34-year-old Jermaine Foster Jr., who was found unconscious and not breathing when officers reached the scene. Foster was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Two other victims discovered at the scene were transported to area hospitals with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. A fourth victim managed to reach a hospital on their own for treatment and is also expected to survive.
Neighbors Shocked
Residents who live near the intersection expressed disbelief that the incident had turned deadly.
“I’m surprised to hear someone got killed over there,” said Julian, a neighbor who has lived across from the Reeves Municipal Center for five years.
He recalled noticing the police response but initially assumed it was routine activity for a weekend night in the neighborhood.
“I looked out the window because I went to get a drink, and there were cop cars out here,” he said. “I didn’t think much of it because it’s U Street and 14th Street and it’s the weekend.”
Police Investigation Underway
D.C. police have not announced any arrests in connection with the stabbing, and no suspect description has been released. Detectives are now working to piece together what sparked the fatal argument and who may have been responsible.
The Metropolitan Police Department is asking anyone with information about the case to come forward. Tips can be provided by calling the MPD tip line at (202) 727-9099 or by sending an anonymous text to 50411.
Violence in a Popular Corridor
The U Street corridor, once known as “Black Broadway” for its cultural and musical history, remains a popular destination for nightlife. But the area has also seen its share of violent incidents in recent years, leaving many residents concerned about safety.
For neighbors like Julian, the tragedy highlights the unpredictability of violence in busy urban spaces. “You don’t expect something like this to happen literally outside your door,” he said.
Looking Ahead
As the investigation continues, police are working to reassure residents and business owners in the U Street community. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and interviewing witnesses in hopes of identifying a suspect.
For now, the killing of Jermaine Foster Jr. stands as the latest reminder of the city’s ongoing struggle with violent crime—turning what should have been another lively weekend night into a scene of tragedy.
