WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man died early Saturday after being found with multiple stab wounds near the Franklin D. Reeves Municipal Center in Northwest Washington, according to police.
Early Morning Incident
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said officers were called to the 2000 block of 14th Street NW, between U and V streets in the Cardozo neighborhood, around 3:53 a.m. When they arrived, they found a man unresponsive and suffering from several stab wounds.
Emergency crews rushed him to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity, pending notification of his family. No description of the suspect has been made public. Investigators remained at the scene for several hours Saturday morning, gathering evidence and canvassing the area for witnesses.
The Franklin D. Reeves Municipal Center, a city government building that houses various D.C. agencies, sits at a busy intersection in Northwest Washington. While the area is often active during the day and evening with restaurants, nightlife, and government offices, the incident occurred during the early morning hours when fewer people were around.
Community Concern
The stabbing has raised new concerns for safety in the 14th Street corridor, which in recent years has seen both growth in nightlife and persistent challenges with violent crime. Residents expressed alarm at another violent episode happening so close to a government hub.
“It’s unsettling,” said one neighbor who lives nearby. “This is supposed to be a well-traveled area. To think something like this happened right here is frightening.”
Police Call for Tips
Police are urging anyone who may have information about the stabbing to come forward. Tips can be provided by calling 202-727-9099 or by texting 50411. The case number is 25-061-596.
Authorities have not said whether the stabbing was random or if the victim and suspect may have known each other. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the attack.
Broader Context
The incident adds to ongoing efforts by D.C. officials to reduce violent crime in the city. While homicide rates in some parts of the District have fluctuated, stabbings and assaults continue to be a point of concern for law enforcement and community members alike.
City leaders have emphasized collaboration between police, local agencies, and residents as part of their strategy to improve safety in high-traffic corridors such as U Street and 14th Street.
For now, investigators remain focused on identifying the suspect and determining what sparked the fatal confrontation.
