A late-night police chase that began in Prince George’s County and crossed into Washington, D.C., ended with five suspects in custody and the recovery of multiple firearms, authorities confirmed Monday.
Carjacked Vehicle Spotted
The incident unfolded shortly after 1:10 a.m. on September 8, when Seat Pleasant police officers identified a vehicle near Central Avenue and Addison Road. The car had been reported stolen in a recent carjacking and was also linked to other robbery cases.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to comply, sparking a high-speed pursuit that raced from Prince George’s County into Northeast Washington.
Chase Ends in D.C. Neighborhood
The pursuit came to a close near Lane Place and Lee Street NE. Police said the suspects abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot through the neighborhood. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the D.C. Federal Task Force, all five individuals were quickly apprehended.
Authorities identified the group as one adult and four juveniles. Their names have not been released, and officials have withheld the ages of the minors involved.
Firearms and Evidence Recovered
During the arrest, investigators discovered multiple firearms linked to the suspects. Detectives are now working to determine whether the recovered weapons are connected to other recent crimes in the area.
So far, each suspect has been charged with unlawful use of a vehicle. Police officials noted that additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Juvenile Involvement Raises Concerns
The case highlights a troubling trend seen across the region: the involvement of young people in violent crimes such as carjackings, armed robberies, and illegal gun activity. Law enforcement leaders in both Maryland and D.C. have repeatedly emphasized the need for stronger community interventions and youth prevention programs, alongside strict accountability for offenders.
Regional Cooperation Key
Officials credited coordination among multiple agencies for the swift resolution of the incident. The Seat Pleasant Police Department worked closely with MPD officers and the D.C. Federal Task Force, ensuring that all suspects were apprehended within minutes of the pursuit ending.
Authorities say the collaborative response prevented further danger to the public during the early-morning chase. No injuries to officers, suspects, or bystanders were reported.
Investigation Ongoing
Detectives are now piecing together the suspects’ potential ties to other robberies across the region. Police say forensic testing of the firearms and further witness statements will help determine whether the group was involved in additional crimes beyond the initial carjacking.
The arrests mark another chapter in the ongoing fight against carjackings and gun violence that have surged in recent years across the D.C. metropolitan area. Community members remain hopeful that decisive action against offenders, combined with targeted prevention strategies, will reduce the cycle of repeat crimes.
