‘We Just Want Peace’: DC Family Seeks Justice Two Years After Oxon Hill Double Murder

OXON HILL, Md. – For two years, the family of Lamont and Charles Oxley has lived with heartbreak and unanswered questions. The brothers were gunned down outside an Oxon Hill apartment complex in September 2023, and to this day, their killers remain unidentified.

For their aunt, Ronita Oxley, the tragedy has become more than a personal loss. It has sparked a mission — to keep her nephews’ memories alive and to prevent other families from experiencing the same pain.

Turning Grief Into Action

Ronita, a Southeast DC native, has taken the devastating loss of her nephews and transformed it into advocacy. She now carries a tourniquet everywhere she goes, keeping it tucked in her bag as a reminder of the importance of being prepared in emergencies.

“It stretches wide enough to go around your arm, your back, your torso,” she explained while demonstrating how it works. “You twist this right here, just keep twisting it to get as tight as it can go to stop the bleeding.”

Her knowledge didn’t come from medical training but from online tutorials. Inspired by what she learned, Ronita has also started assembling first aid kits to share with others in the community.

“I saw the need in the most personal way possible,” she said, reflecting on the night her nephews lost their lives.

The Night That Changed Everything

On September 10, 2023, tragedy struck the Oxon Hill community. Police responded to the 5500 block of Livingston Terrace, where they discovered 28-year-old Charles Oxley and 30-year-old Lamont Oxley fatally shot.

“They both was good-hearted people,” Ronita said, her voice heavy with grief. “Charles, he worked 24/7, took care of his kids. Lamont, he loved his family. He worked as well.”

The two men, beloved by friends and family, were remembered as hardworking and devoted. Their sudden and violent deaths left the Oxley family devastated.

A Case Still Open

Two years later, the case remains unsolved. For Ronita and her family, the wait for justice has been agonizing.

“It’s like a waiting game,” she said. “I don’t know who would wanna do this, but we’re gonna find out soon. Very soon.”

Prince George’s County Police (PGPD) continue to investigate, but detectives have not publicly identified suspects or revealed a motive.

Renewed Push for Answers

On Wednesday evening, detectives will return to the Livingston Terrace apartment complex, going door-to-door with flyers in hopes of uncovering new leads. The walk will begin at 5 p.m. as officers engage directly with residents who may have witnessed something or have useful information.

Investigators are urging anyone with old photos, Ring camera footage, or other potential evidence from the night of the murders to come forward.

‘We Just Want Justice’

For Ronita, the fight is about accountability and closure.

“The family just need justice. That’s all we want,” she said firmly. “We’re not asking for nothing else but just justice. And we want the people who did it held accountable, punished, and responsible, ’cause they destroyed our family.”

While detectives continue their search, Ronita’s message remains clear: her nephews’ lives mattered, and their story isn’t over until those responsible are brought to justice.

In the meantime, she carries her tourniquet, makes first aid kits, and speaks out — determined to save lives and ensure her family’s pain serves a purpose.
