Prom season is in full swing across the Hudson Valley, and for students at Poughkeepsie High School, this year’s celebration turned into an unforgettable evening — thanks to a local police officer who brought more than just security to the dance floor.

A Night to Remember

The annual Poughkeepsie High School prom, known for its energy, fashion, and youthful spirit, saw an unexpected highlight this year: Officer Geuss of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. Not content with just overseeing the event, the officer fully embraced the prom’s “Enchanted Forest” theme by creatively decorating his uniform to blend in with the magical atmosphere.

But it wasn’t just his festive attire that got people talking — it was his dance moves. Videos and photos quickly spread across social media as Officer Geuss hit the dance floor with students, surprising everyone with his charisma and rhythm. His enthusiasm helped set the tone for an evening full of fun, laughter, and unity.

Prom Traditions Live On

The prom featured classic traditions like the crowning of the prom king and queen, with a full prom court made up of students recognized for their school spirit and involvement in extracurriculars. As always, it was a celebration of friendships, milestones, and memories made during high school.

Students arrived in gowns and tuxedos, posed for photos, and danced the night away — joined by an officer who reminded everyone that prom is not just for the students, but for the community that supports them too.

Community Connection

In a time when positive relationships between youth and law enforcement are more important than ever, Officer Geuss’s participation showed how simple acts of joy and connection can leave a lasting impact. His presence was a reminder that officers are not just authority figures, but also neighbors, mentors, and community members.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department later posted about the event, proudly sharing, “Officer Geuss had the best time at Poughkeepsie High School’s prom last night! He even decked out his uniform to fit the enchanted forest theme!”

A Prom to Remember

While many students may forget who was crowned prom king or what songs played during the final slow dance, it’s safe to say this year’s prom will be remembered for the officer who danced, laughed, and celebrated right alongside them — making the night extra special for all who attended.
