Eager Fans Await Fuddruckers' Return to Maryland

SILVER SPRING, Md. – After years of anticipation, Fuddruckers is preparing to make its long-awaited return to Maryland, rekindling excitement among fans of the burger chain known for its self-serve toppings bar and famously branded “World’s Greatest Hamburgers.”

The upcoming Maryland location is set for 819 Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring, the very spot that once housed the former Fuddruckers restaurant before its closure in December 2019. The space has sat vacant ever since, but a comeback is now officially in the works.

A Comeback in Progress

While an official opening date has yet to be announced, Fuddruckers confirmed they are actively working behind the scenes to prepare for their Silver Spring reopening. In a recent statement, the company said they are “still working through some things to make sure we give Silver Spring the best Fudds experience.”

Back in November 2023, the new location held its hearing for a beer, wine, and liquor license, signaling forward movement on the project. That momentum has continued into 2025, with signs pointing to a launch expected in the near future—though no specific date has been confirmed.

This Silver Spring revival follows the successful March 2025 opening of a new D.C. location, which drew large crowds and marked the brand’s first reentry into the region. With D.C. fans already enjoying their fix, Maryland residents are now eagerly awaiting their turn.

A New Era Under Nicholas Perkins

The return of Fuddruckers to the DMV area comes after a major turning point in the brand’s history. In 2021, entrepreneur and long-time Fuddruckers franchisee Nicholas Perkins, through his company Black Titan Holdings, acquired the restaurant chain for $18.5 million. The acquisition made headlines, not just for reviving the brand, but also for making Perkins one of the few Black owners of a national restaurant franchise.

In a statement at the time of the purchase, Perkins emphasized his commitment to both the brand and its franchisees:

“We’re excited to be purchasing Fuddruckers and look forward to working with Fuddruckers’ many dedicated, highly capable franchisees to further build this brand. As a Fuddruckers franchisee, I have a vested interest in ensuring that all Fuddruckers franchisees have the resources, infrastructure, and operational and marketing support they need to maximize their return on investment.”

Perkins believes that this strategic alignment, paired with Fuddruckers’ signature product offerings, will help ensure long-term success and growth for the company.

Why the Hype?

Fuddruckers built its loyal following on customizable burgers, freshly baked buns, and a casual dining experience that appealed to families, students, and burger lovers of all kinds. Its signature toppings bar, where customers could dress their burgers with everything from lettuce and tomato to nacho cheese and jalapeños, set it apart from other fast-casual chains.

The Silver Spring location had been a community favorite before its closure, making its planned reopening a cause for local celebration. For many, the return represents not only a second chance to enjoy the burgers they love but also a revival of a shared neighborhood experience.

What’s Next?

For now, fans in Maryland will need to stay tuned as Fuddruckers finalizes preparations for the Ellsworth Drive location. The company has made it clear that they are taking the time to ensure the reopening meets expectations and delivers the same quality and experience that customers remember.

Until then, those craving a Fuddruckers fix can visit the newly opened Washington, D.C. branch, or follow updates from the company and local news outlets for the latest on the Silver Spring launch.

With energy building and the finishing touches underway, Fuddruckers’ return to Maryland is no longer a question of “if”—but “when.”
