Traffic stop leads to the arrest of two Poughkeepsie men for drug possession

PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police – SP Highland BCI announce the arrest of 24 year old, Amar Ramjit, of Poughkeepsie, NY, for multiple counts of felony drug possession. Additionally, 25 year old, Mark McFarlane, of Poughkeepsie, NY, was arrested for False Impersonation and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

On 05/07/15, subsequent to an investigation stemming from a vehicle and traffic stop conducted while in the Town of Lloyd, Amar Ramjit (the vehicle’s operator) was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (a class B felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree (a class C felony) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree (a class D felony) for his possession of heroin and crack cocaine. McFarlane (a passenger in the vehicle) was charged with False Impersonation (a class A misdemeanor) and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (a violation) for his possession of a small quantity of marijuana. Investigation also revealed that McFarlane was actively wanted on a bench warrant issued by the City of Kingston Court.

Ramjit and McFarlane were arraigned in the Town of Lloyd Court by Judge Rizzo who set bail and subsequently remanded both men to Ulster County Jail. Ramjit was remanded on $25,000 cash/$50,000 bond and McFarlane was remanded on $3,000 cash/ $5,000 bond. Both subjects are set to re-appear in the Town of Lloyd Court on 05/12/15 at 5:00pm.
