Obituary, Lewis Ernest (Lew) Buckley

Lewis Ernest (Lew) Buckley passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on May 15, 2024, succumbing to complications from MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome), at the age of 90. Predeceased by his two brothers, Sherwood (Buck) and Larry (Speed), Lew is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda; daughters Deborah and Lisa; son-in-law Bill; granddaughter Jennifer; and nephew and nieces Lawrence, Tami, Caroline, Tina, Marianne and their families.

Lew will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, and son; loyal, selfless friend; and respected, trusted confidant and counselor who was an engaging conversationalist with a gentle, affecting smile and warm laugh.

He was a beacon of hope, offering wisdom and encouragement, helping to make a difference in his community, one individual at a time. Many who knew Lew have shared beautiful, funny, heartfelt stories of how he has uniquely touched their lives. His legacy of compassion, resilience, and grace is etched in the hearts and minds of all who had the benefit of knowing him. He will be missed and held forever close.

Lew’s life will be celebrated Wednesday, June 12, 2024. His family will receive friends from 2-4 pm at Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 NY-22, Dover Plains, NY. Following the visitation, Rev. Thom Fiet will conduct a service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Amenia Island Cemetery in Amenia, NY.
