Crews to Clean Up Dutchess Roadways
to Celebrate Earth Day
Poughkeepsie… With Earth Day approaching on April 22nd, Dutchess County Public Works (DPW) Highway Division will again dedicate several days to highway cleanup as part of ongoing efforts to maintain the county roadway system. Starting tomorrow, April 18th, and continuing April 19th, 22nd and 23rd, DPW Highway crews will focus on litter cleanup on some of the County’s most highly trafficked roadways.
DPW Commissioner Robert Balkind said, “Our crews work tirelessly no matter the season to maintain hundreds of miles of our Dutchess County highway system – from plowing to mowing, to this annual tradition of picking up garbage along busy roads – continuing Dutchess’ commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment. We appreciate residents’ and volunteers’ efforts to help us keep our roadways clean and beautiful for all to enjoy this Earth Day and all year long.”
Among the County roads scheduled for the four-day cleanup include:
- Saint Andrews Road (CR 40A) in Hyde Park
- Overlook Road (CR 46) in Pleasant Valley
- Cream Street (CR 39) in Poughkeepsie
- Bulls Head Road (CR 19) in Rhinebeck
- West Kerley’s Corners Road (CR 78) in Red Hook
- Annandale Road (CR 103) in Red Hook/Rhinebeck
- North Clove Road (CR 9) in Union Vale
- Salt Point Turnpike (CR 17) in Clinton
- Chestnut Ridge Road (CR 24) in Washington
- Old Route 22 (CR 6) in Dover
- Cricket Hill Road (CR 22) in Amenia
- Sylvan Lake Road (CR 10) in Beekman
- Bruzgul Road (CR 21) in Union Vale/Dover
- Clove Branch Road/Carpenter Road (CR 29) in East Fishkill
- Myers Corners Road (CR 93) in Wappinger
- Noxon Road (CR 21) in LaGrange
- Mount Ross Road (CR 50) in Pine Plains
Residents can also contact their local municipality for additional information on trash pick-up or other clean-up opportunities. Organizations and residents who are interested in helping keep Dutchess County’s roadways clean and scenic can participate in the County’s Adopt-A-Highway program. Organizations are encouraged to apply by calling (845) 486-2925. The New York State Department of Transportation and several local municipalities also offer Adopt-A-Road programs for state and local roadways.
