Catskill man arrested and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.

On May 17, 2023, at approximately 11:10 a.m. State Troopers from the Catskill barracks responded to a residence on Jefferson Heights Road for a report of an individual dragging a bird coop around a yard with a car. Investigation revealed that Paul Saxe, age 49, from Catskill, went to a residence on Jefferson Heights Road and attached a bird coop to his vehicle with a tow strap and dragged it across the yard and driveway killing over a dozen quails that were inside the coop. He then left the bird coop in front of a dumpster and left the area. Witnessed described the vehicle as an older red Dodge Durango with New York license plates.

Troopers located the vehicle at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Central Avenue in Catskill and initiated a traffic stop and identified the operator as Paul Saxe. After being interviewed by troopers he was arrested and charged with Agriculture and Markets Law- Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, and Reckless Endangerment. Saxe was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Catskill Court on June 15, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
