Serious Crash Involving Two Dirt Bikes in Dover Under Investigation

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a serious crash involving two dirt bikes, which occurred in the Town of Dover at approximately 5:10 pm on 5/6/23.

On the above date and time Deputies responded to Weil Rd in Dover for a report of a head-on crash involving two dirt bikes. Preliminary investigation revealed that the two bikes, both operated by juvenile males, were traveling in opposite directions on Weil Rd when they crashed head-on with each other. As a result both operators suffered serious injuries and were airlifted from the scene to Danbury Hospital in Connecticut, from which one was ultimately transferred to Westchester Medical Center and the other to Hartford Children’s Hospital. At this time the two operators are conscious and alert, and their identities are being withheld.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit, and at this time the primary factor in the crash appears to be failure to keep right on the part of one of the operators. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the J.H. Ketcham Hose Co., and more information may be released as it becomes available.
