American Flag Waves Proudly Over County’s Veterans Memorial Highway

The American flag flies proudly atop a newly installed flagpole on the Veterans Memorial Highway (County Route 40A/St. Andrews Road) in the Town of Hyde Park commemorating the services and sacrifices of our nation’s veterans. St. Andrews Road was dedicated as the Veterans Memorial Highway in June 2014 to recognize the men and women who served in the Unites States military. The flagpole is located at the corner of Route 9G and St. Andrews Road.

County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “We are proud to continue our efforts to honor and recognize our nation’s military with the addition of an American flag alongside Veterans Memorial Highway. This flag serves as a constant reminder for Dutchess County residents and visitors of the many sacrifices given by the brave men and women who have served or are currently serving our country.”

“The American flag symbolizes the freedoms fought for and protected by our nation’s heroes, our military. This flag will provide an opportunity for reflection on the bravery and sacrifice shown by the men and women of our armed forces,” said Dutchess County Director of Veterans Services Nelson Eddy Rivera, USN (Ret).

The Dutchess County Department of Public Works installed the flag pole earlier this month and will maintain the flag. The flag is illuminated with a solar powered ground spotlight.
