LAND Gallery in Pawling, New York is presenting “Impressions” – a new exhibition of photographs by Jane Haslam. Through her images of land and water, she has made emotional connections to her new home and invites the viewer to share these emotions. Her photographs take you within yourself, place you directly in the landscape, and stimulate your senses so that you too get to experience the emotions of the moment. The show is May 5 – June 25, 2023 with an artist reception with live music Friday May 12, 2023 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Haslam will also be hosting a “Photowalk” in Pawling on Saturday June 10, 2023 11am-1pm and will be giving an Artist Talk on Friday June 16, 2023 7-8:30pm. Close your eyes and take a second to imagine the soundscapes made by water: the babbling of a brook as it cascades and tumbles down its rocky path; the intensity of waves as they break on a shore; the gentle hiss of a summer thunderstorm peppering a forest; the throaty roar of a waterfall full of spring meltwater. Sounds such as these and the emotions they generate are the inspiration behind this new exhibition of photographs by Jane Haslam .
Haslam is a British photographer who currently resides in the Hudson Valley. Although she moved here in 2009, much of the work in this exhibition has been taken since the end of the pandemic after she found the time to explore and create connections to the land that she now calls home. Haslam and her camera are consistently drawn to the familiarity of water, it’s at the very core of life and stirs a wide range of emotions deep down in the soul. The photographer is constantly challenged by water as it moves constantly, shaping the landscape as it interacts with the changing light of the day or night. There might be the awe-inspiring power of a river in full spate, or the soft serenity of a calm, pre-dawn reflection or a visceral wildness in a storm or the gentle pull of an ocean sunrise. Her photographs take you within yourself, place you directly in the landscape, and stimulate your senses so that you too get to experience the emotions of the moment.
LAND Gallery features the work of some of the most highly regarded photographers and artists in the local area. There is also a curated artisanal gift shop that sells a selection of locally handmade fine art and gifts.
