Pawling Rotary Doin’s This Spring!

Pawling Rotary Doin’s This Spring!

By Susan Stone

With the advent of Spring comes another busy time for the Pawling Rotary Club. As we shake off the chill of winter, Rotary will present two heartwarming events:

The 11th Annual Rotary Golf Outing will take place on May 22 at the Quaker Hill Country Club, and this year John Ammaturo is our Honoree. John is a longstanding member of the Pawling Rotary Club who is the personification of Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self.” The Pawling community knows John well. His kindness, generosity and leadership have added immeasurably to the fabric of community life, and Pawling Rotary is pleased and proud to honor him with this tribute.

The community is invited to join us at noon on Monday, May 22 as our outing gets underway with registration and lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Shotgun start time will be at 1:00 p.m. Once again, golfing will be a scramble format and the fee is $175.00 per golfer, which includes a day on the links with golf cart, lunch, and dinner. Dinner without golfing is also available for $65.00 for community members who wish to join our festivities later in the day, when we will be celebrating John. Please call 845-656-4707 for reservations.

Proceeds from this event will fund the many educational and leadership programs supported by Rotary that benefit Pawling’s youth, including the Interact Club of Pawling; R.Y.L.A. Leadership Conference; our annual donation of dictionaries to third graders in Pawling’s public and private schools; scholarships for disadvantaged students to Pawling Recreation’s after-school program; and the Roger Smith-Pawling Rotary College Scholarship Program.

Additionally, plans begin on April 17th for a Rotary 7210 District wide service project culminating on May 20th. Each Rotary club within our district will develop a service project specific to their community need. Pawling Rotary will spearhead the collection of toiletries and personal product items for the families of the Pawling Resource Center. According to Olga Brandenberger, Resource Center Executive Director, essential supplies for community members in need will include toothbrushes for adults and children, toothpaste, combs and brushes, razors for men and women, shaving gel, deodorant, shampoo, hair conditioner, body lotion, cotton swabs, bath tissue, facial tissue, body wash or body soap, and women’s hygiene products. On Saturday, May 20th, members of the Pawling Rotary Club will be stationed outside of CVS, 26 E. Main Street, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with lists of needed items that will be available for purchase within. Filled collection boxes of donated items will be transported by Rotarians to the PRC.  Additionally, several student organizations will be working alongside the Rotary Club in this community-wide effort.

Information about both the 11th Annual Golf Outing and the Rotary Service Project, with ways in which community members may participate, can be found on the Rotary website, at pawlingrotary.org.
