UPDATE: New York State Police are investigating a homicide in the town of Plattekill. State Police have arrested a Newburgh man for Murder 2nd degree

UPDATE: On March 7, 2023, members of the New York State Police – Troop F Bureau of Criminal of Investigation (BCI) and the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) arrested Junando Dawkins, age 29, of Newburgh, New York at the United States Army base in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  The defendant was indicted on the charges of Murder 2nd degree and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree.  The indictment resulted from a homicide investigation into the January 1st, 2023, shooting death of Daniel Spotards, age 41, from the town of Plattekill.  The defendant was brought back to New York State by members of the New York State Police and then arraigned before Judge Sara McGinty on March 10th, 2023, and then remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.  The investigation was conducted by the Troop F BCI and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.  The New York State Police would like to thank the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and the New York City Police Department for their assistance with the investigation.

On January 2, 2023, the New York State Police, Highland Barracks responded to Campbell Drive Extension in the town of Plattekill for a report of a person deceased outside a residence.  The victim, a 41-year-old male was located outside his residence with multiple gunshot wounds.  The incident is still under investigation.  The State Police are being assisted in the investigation by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Plattekill Police Department, and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
