Poughkeepsie man charged in connection with armed robbery

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Joseph A. Wrubel, age 18 of Poughkeepsie, in connection with an early-morning armed robbery which occurred in the Town of Wappinger on 3/6/23.

On 3/6/23 at approximately 5:15am, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Shell gas station at 1831 Route 376 in the Town of Wappinger for a report of an armed robbery. Preliminary investigation revealed that a lone suspect allegedly entered the business, displayed a firearm, and stole cash and merchandise before fleeing on foot. Further investigation by Sheriff’s Office Detectives led to the identification and arrest of Mr. Wrubel later in the day on 3/6/23 in connection with the robbery.

At this time Mr. Wrubel has been charged with Robbery in the 2nd degree, which is a felony. After being processed he was arraigned before the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond and is due to appear before the Town of Wappinger Court on 3/8/23 at 5:30pm.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police, and the investigation is continuing at this time. As with any criminal case, the charge described above is merely an accusation and Mr. Wrubel is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
