The East Fishkill Police Department reports the arrest of Jamel M. Williams (age 30). On October 26th 2022, at around 9:20am, the East Fishkill Police responded to Sunset Dr in the Town of East Fishkill for a reported Burglary in progress. Additionally, it was reported that the female homeowner was being assaulted by a male subject. Moments later, a separate call was made to Dutchess County 911 to report a male subject, in the same area previously described, allegedly pointing a firearm and threatening a local neighbor.
The first EFPD officer to arrive on scene encountered the suspect, later identified as Jamel Williams, on the roadway. Mr. Williams became combative by assaulting the officer once the officer exited his patrol vehicle. A paramedic, having responded to the scene for the assault victim, was also assaulted by Mr. Williams as the paramedic was attempting to assist the officer. During the altercation, the male suspect made multiple attempts to remove the officer’s firearm from his holster while making threats against the officer’s life. The suspect was ultimately subdued, without injury, and taken into custody.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital to confirm his medical well-being and subsequently brought to the East Fishkill Police Department for processing. The officer and paramedic were transported to the hospital and later released.
Mr. Williams was brought to East Fishkill Justice Court and arraigned before the Honorable Judge Brian Rudner. Judge Rudner remanded Mr. Williams to Dutchess County Jail with $100,000 cash/$300,000 bond/ $900,000 partially secured bond. Mr. Williams was charged with Assault 1st, Burglary 1st, Assault 2nd, Assault 2nd (assault on police officer/EMT), Criminal Mischief 3rd, Menacing 2nd, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th and Resisting Arrest.
As with any criminal case the charges described above are merely an accusation and Mr. Williams is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is continuing by the Town of East Fishkill’s Detective Division.
