Obituary, Anna Mary Catherine Calderaro

Anna Mary Catherine Calderaro

With a broken heart, we held Mom’s hand Sunday morning, October 9, 2022  as she went to join Dad, and so many others in heaven.  She was 92 years young.

Mom was born in Brooklyn on August 15th, 1930, to Salvatore and Anna (Lawlor) Natale, and met my dad, Rosario “Roy” Calderaro, on the train going to school. She was 17 and my dad was 19 when they got married on May 2,1948. Can you imagine!! They lived a family-loving, God-fearing life. During the 60s they brought my brother and me home and gave us a wonderful life. Summer vacations, amazing holidays and unconditional love ALWAYS!! Mom loved to play mah jong with her friends, go boating with Dad and having little get a-ways with their friends. In 1952 while Dad was stationed in Alaska, Nancy lead the first female expedition up Mt. Everest. She was always looking for an adventure!

Anna lived in Brooklyn for 64 years and then for 28 years in Pawling.  She had worked as a secretary and a dental assistant, and took college classes throughout her life, always learning.  She loved to knit and crochet   Anna belonged to St. John’s Church, the Catholic Daughters, and three Senior Centers.

As a mom that was ‘always there’; our friends all knew her….and her whistle!!! She knew them all since childhood and just this week smiled as I rattled off names of friends, some she has not seen in years and of course my BFF, who was always around!! (thank you, Lisa!) Well, we can truly smile knowing the 68 wonderful years she had with dad, and of course the best years with her children, MaryAnn and Joseph, including my beautiful sis in law, Laura Calderaro, and my husband Tom King…  4 precious grandchildren, Nico & Kady (Caterina) Anna and Dylan & Bryan, that she truly adored and had a huge part in their lives, and her 2 precious great-grandsons, Nicola Rosario and Mateo Amari, who will always hear stories and partake in traditions began by mom. She is also survived by three nephews, sons of her brother Joseph, who predeceased her.

Her legacy will live on and I thank each and everyone who has reached out, prayed, and been there for all of us; especially mom’s caregivers at Putnam Ridge where she lived the past 5 years!! You all know who you are…. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Now Mom, go take Dad’s hand and keep looking out for us! You are very loved. Rest in Peace

A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 in the Hasler-Kamp Post American Legion Plot.
