Registration open for Oct. 1 River Run 5K and kids’ run

NEW MILFORD – Autumn activities will be the center of attention Oct. 1-2 at Young’s Field during the town’s RiverFest.

RiverFest will be held Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Offerings will include food, live music, Bingo, vendor booths, children’s activities, a beer and wine garden, a cornhole tournament, nature and historic walks and more.

Also returning this year will be the second New Milford River Run/Walk 5K and Kids’ Superhero Sprint Oct. 1.

The benefit run/walk will follow a certified course along the Housatonic River on Young’s Field Road, continue to Boardman Road and head back to Young’s Field. The course has minimal turns and little elevation change. It will be chip timed by iRunCT.

The Kids’ Superhero Sprint is open to children 10 and under who are invited to dress up as their favorite superhero. Medals and prizes will be awarded in several categories and power-unlocking goody bags will be presented.

The kids’ sprint will start at 4 p.m. while the run/walk will begin at 4:30 p.m. 5K medals and prizes will be awarded on stage at 5:45 p.m.

Performance shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants for the 5K. Discount pricing is available for individuals up to age 15 and for those 60-plus, as well as for members of eligible running clubs.

Prizes have been donated by numerous local gyms, running companies, restaurants and other businesses.
