State Police have determined George Gonzalez, 68, of Dumont, NJ, operating a 2017 Toyota Rav-4, was the wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on I-87 near mile marker 35.7.  Gonzalez drove into the path of a 2022 Nissan Altima being driven by Yehuda Weinstock, 67, of Chester, NY, resulting in the Toyota to become engulfed in flames.  Both drivers were pronounced deceased and removed from the scene by the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Troopers from SP Tarrytown and SP Newburgh were assisted on the scene by Troop F BCI, Troop F CRU (Collision Reconstruction Unit), Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, Tuxedo and Sterling Forest Fire Departments, Kiryas Joel Volunteer EMS, Jan’s Med-A-Car Towing, and Thruway Traffic Safety.

Tuxedo, NY – On September 6, 2022, at about 1:00 a.m., State Police responded to a serious personal injury crash on I-87 in the town of Tuxedo, Orange County.

A preliminary investigation has determined a passenger vehicle was driving northbound in the southbound lanes between Exit 16 (Harriman) and Exit 15A (Sloatsburg), when it struck another passenger vehicle head on.
The vehicles were occupied by drivers only, both of whom were pronounced deceased on the scene.
All southbound lanes remain blocked during accident reconstruction.   Traffic is being diverted at Exit 16, Harriman.  More information will be released when it becomes available.
