Cortlandt, New York – On July 5, 2022, the New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks began investigating a fatal motor vehicle and pedestrian crash on Crompond Road in the town of Cortlandt.

At approximately 23:15 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to Crompond Road and Lafayette Avenue for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Peekskill Emergency Medical Services was already on scene rendering aid to the pedestrian who was transported to Hudson Valley Hospital. The man later identified as, Edwin G. Merchan Tenemea, age 34, of Peekskill, NY, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Initial investigation determined a 2004 Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Crompond Road and struck Edwin Merchan Tenemea who was walking in the westbound lane.

This investigation remains ongoing.
