Molinaro to Host Town Hall on NYSEG
Proposed Rate Hike Monday, June 27th
Amenia, Beekman, Dover and Pawling residents invited to attend,
have questions answered by NYSEG officials
Poughkeepsie… As part of ongoing advocacy on behalf of Dutchess County residents, County Executive Marc Molinaro will host a Town Hall Forum with representatives from NYSEG on Monday, June 27th, starting at 6pm at the Beekman Town Hall, located at 4 Main Street in Poughquag to discuss New York State Electric & Gas’ (NYSEG) rate increase proposal submitted to the New York State Public Service Commission last month. NYSEG representatives will review the proposal, which would increase rates up to 22 percent starting in May 2023, if approved. Residents of the towns of Amenia, Beekman, Dover, and Pawling, which NYSEG serves, are encouraged to attend to have their questions answered.
County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “This town hall will give residents within NYSEG’s service area in Dutchess County the chance to have their questions answered and better understand the fee structure associated with this essential utility. We are grateful to NYSEG for their willingness to meet with residents and business owners to ensure they receive the affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy they need.”
At the town hall, officials from NYSEG will outline the utility’s rate increase request, as well as the differences between the taxes and fees associated with delivering the commodity. The discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer period for residents to share their input. Residents are invited to submit their questions in advance online.
Dutchess County Legislator Dierdre Houston said, “With costs for every day essentials rising across the board, it’s vital for families and businesses to understand where their hard-earned dollars are going. I am grateful to County Executive Molinaro for hosting this town hall for residents in NYSEG’s service area within Dutchess County to have their questions answered and concerns addressed before any rate increases go into effect.”
County Executive Molinaro recently outlined his concerns regarding both NYSEG and Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. in a letter to Rory M. Christian, Chairman and CEO of the New York State Public Service Commission. The County Executive called on the Commission to suspend any rate increases until customer disputes are resolved, and a management and operations audit has been completed.
