Obituary, Martin James Peterson

Dover Plains, NY – Martin James Peterson, 74, a longtime area resident passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mr. Peterson worked at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center, Town of Washington Highway Department, Skip Barber Racing School and retired from the Town of Amenia Highway Department.

Mr. Peterson proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He also raced dirt cars at Lebanon Valley Speedway and raced asphalt at Kauneonga Speedway.

Born on December 6, 1948 in Sharon, CT, he was the son of the late David and Charlotte (Adams) Peterson. Mr. Peterson was the beloved father to Dana Davis and her husband, Robert, of Dover Plains, NY and Darren Peterson and his wife, Toni Ann, of Wassaic, NY. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Samantha Davis and her companion, Al Denaut, Jo Marie and Mitchell Peterson; a sister-in-law, Eileen Peterson; a niece, Darlene Luminati and two nephews, Bobby and David Peterson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Peterson was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Peterson; a sister, Agnus Peterson of Sharon, CT and his longtime companion, Shirley Harris formerly of Lake Placid, NY.

Graveside services and burial with military honors will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Ellsworth Cemetery, 11 Cemetery Rd, Sharon, CT with Rev. R. Kent Wilson officiating.
