State police arrest an Accord man for DWI and weapons charges following a traffic stop

Napanoch – On January 2, 2022 at approximately 11:07 p.m. state police from the Ellenville barracks stopped a 2005 Ford-150 on Institution Road in the town of Napanoch for a vehicle and traffic law violation. As the trooper approached the vehicle, the operator of the vehicle, later identified as David G. Stephens, age 31 of Accord, reached for what appeared to be a handgun and began to point it at the trooper. Stephens was given a command by the trooper to drop the gun and he complied. He was then removed from his vehicle and arrested. Further investigation revealed that the gun was a pellet gun and Stephens was impaired by alcohol. He submitted to a breath test and was determined to have a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .17%. Stephens was charged with Circumvention of an Interlock Device, a misdemeanor. He was also charged with the felonies Aggravated DWI, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, and Menacing a Police Officer.

Stephens was arraigned in the Town of Rochester Court in front of Town Judge LaFlame. He was released on his own recognizance with a return date of January 7, 2022 at 8:30 a.m.
