Driver of the vehicle fled the scene

On 12/28/21, at approximately 2000 hours, Troopers from Troop A conducted a traffic stop in the area of Rt. 39 and Knollcrest Road, in the Town of New Fairfield, for a speeding violation.
Initial contact with the operator and passenger of the vehicle led to further investigation.
During the course of the investigation, the passenger abruptly exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. After a brief struggle, the passenger was safely taken into custody. Once apprehended, investigating Troopers recovered an illegal firearm and controlled substance from the passenger’s person. The passenger was subsequently transported to Troop A in Southbury, where he was processed without incident.
During the struggle, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene in the vehicle, traveling North towards the Town of Sherman.
