Beacon, New York – On December 29, 2021, the New York State Police began investigating a report of a male jumping from the Newburgh Beacon Bridge at approximately 9:15 a.m.

Newburgh Fire Department marine unit located the deceased, Lester R. Banta, age 55, of Maybrook, NY.  At this time there are no signs of foul play.

The Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
