Residents Encouraged to Take Part in Operation Green Light to Honor Veterans
Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro and Adam Roche, Director the Dutchess County Division of Veterans’ Services, encourage residents to attend the County’s Veterans Day ceremony at the Dutchess County War Memorial on Thursday, November 11th at 11 a.m. The Dutchess County War Memorial is located at John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
Veterans Day is a national holiday intended to be a celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Local municipalities throughout Dutchess County will also host Veterans Day ceremonies to honor and remember those who sacrificed so much.
County Executive Molinaro said, “With all that goes on in our busy lives, it is important to stop and honor the men and women who for generations have protected our nation and safeguarded our freedom. They have sacrificed tremendously so that we don’t have to. We urge Dutchess County residents to attend our Veterans Day commemoration at the Dutchess County War Memorial, or one of the many events throughout our community. Keeping the tradition of Veterans Day alive and taking to time to honor and remember all veterans have done is of utmost importance.”
Dutchess County will continue support of veterans with “Operation Green Light,” an initiative created by the New York State Association of Counties, the New York State County Executives Association the New York State County Veteran Service Officers’ Association and the 62 counties of New York State. The initiative asks New Yorkers to change one light in their home or business to green and calls on government partners across the state to illuminate municipal buildings and assets green during the week of Veterans Day to publicly recognize and thank veterans for all their service to the country. Dutchess County will join “Operation Green Light” and illuminate the County Office Building in the City of Poughkeepsie in green lights from Nov. 7-13th.
Additionally, Veterans’ Services has reached out to local municipalities and community organizations and has compiled a listing of events taking place on or around Veterans Day. Residents should check with event organizers to be aware of COVID-19 precautionary guidelines for the event.
