Obituary, William (Billy) McGoorty

Born June 1,1986 William (Billy) McGoorty was the first child of Edward and Ida McGoorty. A lifelong resident of Pawling Lake, Billy loved the outdoors, the woods, riding his motorcycle, and working on his cars. In his free time, he enjoyed having a few beers and grilling or smoking meats.

He spent time at the upper lake with family and close friends, enjoying a campfire and light conversation.  Billy NEVER had a bad word to say about anyone.  Hidden within, he had a special peace and light-heartedness. Anyone who spent time with Billy could see it reflected in his ear-to-ear childlike grin. That smile never left his face.

When he entered a room, Billy did not draw or demand attention. There was a softness in his demeanor and a simple joy you could experience in his presence. He was always calm and never boastful.

Strong, handsome, kind, honest and hard working – that’s Billy. A-1 Builders, where he worked for several years, called him “one of the finest”. He was trusting and forgiving to a fault. As we take a moment to reflect on Billy, maybe we could all take a page from his book.

He leaves behind his parents, his brother Robert, his sister Michelle, her husband, Roy, and his niece, Morgan May, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and an abundance of wonderful friends.

He will forever be remembered as Brother, Uncle, Friend and above all Son.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Horn & Thomes, Inc, Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Saturday, October 30. 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, with a service at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to your favorite charity.
