State Police warn of dangers of leaving your vehicle unlocked

Kinderhook, New York – October 15, 2021, the State Police in Kinderhook would like to remind members of the community to secure their vehicle properly.

Troopers are investigating numerous complaints of stolen property from unlocked vehicles in the Valatie and Kinderhook.  Residential neighborhoods with high concentrations of vehicles continue to be targeted during overnight hours.

Please always lock your vehicle, even in your own driveway.  Close all windows including sunroofs.  Park in well-lit areas.  Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.  Never leave keys, valuables, or personal identification in a vehicle even for short periods on time.

Community members can further assist in preventing these crimes by remaining vigilant and report any signs of suspicious activity, whether it is a person, vehicle, or noise, immediately to local law enforcement.  Questions or concerns can be directed to any Trooper at the State Police in Kinderhook by calling (518)758-7010.
