Beekman Homicide and Assaults Under Investigation

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a violent stabbing incident which occurred at 174 Walnut Drive in the Town of Beekman (Pawling mailing address) at approximately 11 pm on 9/29/21.

On the above date and time Deputies responded to the above location for a report of an active disturbance in which a male was stabbing other people. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Willem C. Salcius (age 32 of Beekman) started an altercation with neighbors, during which he stabbed three (3) of them multiple times before taking his own life at the scene. One victim is deceased at the scene, and two others were transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victims are identified as follows:

  • William E. McGoorty, age 35 (deceased at the scene).
  • Robert M. McGoorty, age 30 (being treated at the hospital).
  • Edward M. McGoorty, age 58 (being treated at the hospital).

The victims and suspect were known to each other, and at this time the motive is still under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Beekman Fire Department, Pawling Fire Department, Union Vale Fire Department, Town of Dover EMS, and EMStar. The investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau, and more information may be released at a later time as it becomes available.
