Obituary, Arlene Mary Scanlon

Arlene Mary Scanlon, 80, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at The Paramount at Somers in Somers, NY.

A 22-year resident of Pawling, formerly of Westchester, Arlene was born in the Bronx on June 21, 1941, daughter of William and Mary “Grace” (Wolsey) Totten. Arlene followed a religious calling after she graduated from high school.  She later met and married John Michael Scanlon on September 21, 1969, and they just celebrated their 52nd anniversary.  Arlene went on to become a manager at New York Telephone in NYC and the Bronx.

She continued to follow her great faith by becoming a Lector, Catechist, and Eucharistic Minister in St. John’s Church in Pawling.  She frequently visited the sick and was a guardian for a developmentally disabled child who she loved dearly.

She loved to read and she loved animals.

She is survived by her husband John of Pawling; three brothers, William of Danbury, CT, Richard and wife Kathy of Pittsburgh, PA, and George of Cresthill, IL; a sister, Karen Kraemer and husband Gerard of Cortlandt Manor, NY; five nephews, Thomas Kraemer and wife Christina of White Plains, NY, Richard Kraemer and wife Ara of Cortlandt Manor, NY, and Joseph Kraemer, also of Cortlandt Manor and William Totten, Jr and Michael Totten, both of Danbury; four nieces,  Jennifer and husband Travis Wilson and Katie and husband Brian Staub all of Pittsburgh, Eileen and husband Dave Ray of Yorkers, and Sheila and husband Paul Simmons of Pennsylvania: and sister-in-law Eileen Gorham of Yonkers.  She is predeceased by her nephew John Gorham, Jr.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, September 26th at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling from 3-6 PM.  CDC protocol to be observed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM at St. John’s Church, 39 East Main Street, Pawling; burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
