State and local Law Enforcement Agencies report 11 arrests for Driving while intoxicated / Impaired during the Labor Day High Visibility Engagement Campaign that was conducted throughout Dutchess County between August 21st and September 5th 2021. Participating Law Enforcement Agencies included the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie, City of Beacon, City of Poughkeepsie, Town of Fishkill Police, Town of Pine Plains, Village of Wappinger Falls, Village of Red Hook and the Village of Millerton Police Departments. Impaired Driving details consisted of directed DWI Saturation Patrols throughout the county in addition to the participating agencies’ regular patrols.

These coordinated details were funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation which once again awarded the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program a “High Visibility Community Engagement “grant for the 2020-2021 engagement periods. The objective of this continued enforcement grant is to revitalize and enhance the visibility of the STOP-DWI Program through coordinated multi-agency impaired driving enforcement details targeting identified statewide high visibility community engagement periods. They also include the assignment of certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) to aid in the identification and apprehension of drivers impaired.

The goal of the Labor Day Impaired Driving Crackdown as all other crackdown periods was to discourage people from driving impaired, promote awareness, and keep the roadways safe.

Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William Johnson had the following message “The coordinated high visibility enforcement efforts are targeted simply to help reduce the numbers of impaired drivers on the roads and to save lives. Impaired driving continues to be a serious safety threat and by raising public awareness of these efforts we hope to reverse that trend. The STOP-DWI Program acknowledges the dedication of law enforcement and all of the traffic safety partners dedicated to this mission”
