Obituary

Our beloved Rita M. Delmar, 92, a resident of Shelton, CT formerly of Latham, NY and Wingdale, NY passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT surrounded by her family. Mrs. Delmar was a retired therapy aide at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY. Although she was more famously known for her work navigating a long life with lupus and multiple other medical issues, her ability to make a killer peanut brittle, her love of cards, crocheting, bingo and the ability to tell a joke like the best of them.

Born on March 27, 1929 in Churubusco, NY, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lillian (Decoste) Demarse. She was predeceased by both her husbands, Claude Duval and John “Buck” Delmar.

Mrs. Delmar is survived by her only child, a daughter, Sheila Winslow Tufano of Shelton, CT and three granddaughters, Lisa Coates and her husband, Trevor, of Canton, CT, Carrie Hansford and her husband, Brent, of Franklin, GA and Renee Campbell and her husband, Adam, of Lagrange, GA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lillian and Charles Coates, Trevor and Chase Hansford, and Jax and Stella Campbell; three sisters, June Ronk of Middletown, NY, Betty Dinuzzo of Albany, NY and Janet Cromwell of New Milford, CT and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Delmar is predeceased by five brothers, John, Edward, Robert, Hubert and James Demarse and a sister, Mary Becker.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will be held directly following the calling hours at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover Plains.
