Obituary

Douglas E. Wormell, 82, a lifelong Dover Plains resident, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, August 6, 2021. Douglas- also known as “Doobie” by his friends, worked as a tinsmith at Wassaic Development Center for 36 years retiring in 1994.

Born on April 7, 1939 in Sharon, CT, he was the son of the late Horace and Jane (Elliott) Wormell. He served in the United States Army. On June 28, 1965 in Richmond, VA, he married the former Phyllis Scudder who survives at home.

Doug took pride in his skills of landscaping his property. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting the local area and fishing the Ten Mile River. He also enjoyed collecting antique guns and target shooting. He loved taking short trips around Dover with his best friend; a black lab, Luke.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tina L. (Wesley) Berlinghoff of Amenia; his son, Thomas E. (Jessica) Wormell of Saugerties, NY and three granddaughters, Abigail Murphy (Hunter Hawks), Krista Murphy (Richard Robinson) and Jenna Wormell. He is also survived by two great grandchildren; Huxley Hawks and Stella Robinson; a third great-grandchild, baby Hawks, coming soon and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother William Wormell and a sister, Doris Bona.

Calling hours will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Graveside services and burial with military honors will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Valley View Cemetery, South Nellie Hill Rd., Dover Plains, NY.
